Mentoring sessions are once a week, for 4 weeks. Mentoring helps you by re-building your ability to overcome what life throws at you, and help you to identify the issues leading up to you attempting suicide, as well as the immediate triggers which ‘pushed you over the edge of despair’.
They will help you to find the things within yourself, and within your life, which make things better AND worse for you, and help you develop plans and ways of surviving these. More than this they will help you see that you are good enough and you deserve better, even when life feels overwhelming and awful.
It is important that you work with the mentor before moving on with the IMPACT co-ordinator, so that we know you have coping mechanisms and a safety plan in place for times you feel suicidal in future.
About the IMP;ACT TEAM
The IMP;ACT team are a group of dedicated, experienced professionals supporting people who have attempted suicide to recover and find new ways to live.
We have 3 co-ordinators and a team of 4 mentors, all of whom have many years experience working with people who are or have been suicidal.
Every member of the team cares a great deal about each person with whom they work, and is compassionate, understanding, and willing to put the time in to help you find reasons to live, more happily and healthily, in ways which work for you.
Your IMP;ACT Mentor will meet with your IMP;ACT
Co-ordinator before you move onto the next stage of support.
The Mentor will share information that can help the co-ordinator build an action, safety and life plan to help you manage your emotions, relationships and other obstacles you might be encountering in your life.
It is very important that the team communicate so that they can keep you safe, but also identify ways in which your life can work better for you.
They will then be able to work with you on finding ways that you can be happier, more confident and healthier.
Your IMP;ACT co-ordinator will then meet with you, by telephone, video calling or in person, and look at the things in your life which get in the way of you living happily, healthily and well.
They will work with you to find way to resolve ongoing issues and find other services which can meet your needs.
This might include:
going to appointments with you,
giving you contacts for services
which can help you,
or going with you to services to
find out if things are right for you.
